Route Economics & Break-even

The CASK calculator tells you what a seat-kilometre costs. This one tells you whether a particular route pays for it — contribution per sector, the load factor you must fill to break even, and the fare that would break even at the load factor you actually expect. Runs entirely on your device.

The sector

Great-circle distance is close enough. Block distance if you have it.
Not seats sold — the configured capacity of the aircraft flying it.
CASK = operating cost ÷ available seat-kilometres.

The revenue

Net of taxes and passenger charges you collect and remit — what the airline keeps.
Bags, seat selection, on-board. Leave at zero if you do not separate it.
Per departure, not per passenger. It lowers the load factor you must fill.

The percentage is arithmetic. The word beside it is JK's reading, not a published standard — at or under 65% comfortable, to 80% workable, to 90% thin, above that break-even only at near-capacity. Disagree with the cut-offs and the arithmetic still stands. Above 100% is the exception: no load factor covers the sector, which is a fact rather than a view.
